The Lagos State Technical and Vocational Education Board (LASTVEB), in partnership with the West African Vocational Education (WAVE) Academies, has commenced the second batch training of Outcome-Based Education (O.B.E) for 210 instructors in the five Government Technical Colleges across the State.
Speaking at the training programme held at the Public Service Staff Development Centre (PSSDC), Magodo, Ms. Moronke Azeez, the Executive Secretary of LASTVEB, stated that the development of Outcome-Based Education in Technical Colleges must start with the training of the instructors.
The Executive Secretary reiterated that LASTVEB would not relent in developing partnerships with NGOs, public, and private organisations who can support the State government’s efforts in the modernisation of technical education in Lagos.
According to her, the modern approach to teaching and learning should be focused on empowering the teachers in order to make teaching more flexible for them so that they can teach the students online, irrespective of their course or subject.
She added that the outcome-based approach or students-centred learning system will enable the instructors utilise various educational tools, strategies and methods that place the learners’ interest at the fore and consistently engages their interests.
In her words, “The OBE is very important in technical education because it allows the learners to take responsibility for their learning, promotes critical thinking and builds the confidence of learners to go out and successfully compete for jobs and develop their own future path”.
Azeez extended her appreciation to the West African Vocational Education (WAVE) for providing facilitators from reputable institutions to guide the instructors appropriately and ensure a top-quality training programme.
