LASTVEB COMMENCES SIWES ORIENTATION PROGRAMME FOR STUDENTS IN TECHNICAL COLLEGES

The Lagos State Technical and Vocational Education Board (LASTVEB) has commenced an orientation programme to prepare 3,205 Tech II Students for Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) in five Government Technical Colleges across the State.

Speaking at the orientation programme held at the Government Technical College Agidingbi, Ikeja, the Executive Secretary, Ms. Moronke Azeez, explained the importance of the three months programme to the students.

She stated that the SIWES will allow them to acquire additional technical skills and experience in their respective trades for their professional development, adding that the experience that would be acquired from the scheme will bridge the gap between the classrooms and the industry.

Ms. Azeez also made it known to the students that SIWES is one of the important requirements for graduation and encouraged them to be good ambassadors of their colleges by observing all safety rules and protocols of their workplaces.

She said, “You must strive to be diligent, learn as much as possible and go the extra mile in your placement industry to demonstrate your ability. Many former students of our colleges have been employed afterwards because they impressed the people they worked for while on placement”.

While expressing her appreciation to the hundreds of organisations that have accepted to take the students for work placement and possible future employment, the Executive Secretary disclosed that the programme, which will hold from 4th May to 6th August, 2021, is intended to expose students to necessary skills for smooth transition from the classroom to the world of work.
